“時を与える / Giving Time ” (2025)

『時を与える』は紙漉きに用いられる和紙（楮）の繊維を溶かした液体を渦動させ、水中で糸を生成するインスタレーションです。上部からモーターが糸をゆっくりと巻き取ることで、糸は天へと向かって生成され続けます。回転から生まれるトルク（ねじれ）と、上方への巻き取りによるテンション（張力）が相互に作用することで、繊維は自然と撚られ丈夫な糸へと変わっていきます。水面からはまさに誕生したての水を含んだ糸が顔をだします。本作品は、線あるいは線的な時間の起源を示唆しつつ、動詞的で流動的な世界から、名詞的な存在がどのように立ち現れるのかを問いかけます。
“Giving Time” is a kinetic installation where kōzo fibers—traditionally used in Japanese papermaking—swirl in gently moving water, forming a paper thread. Overhead, a motor slowly winds this emerging strand skyward. The swirling force of the current twists the fibers, while the motor’s pulling tension refines them into a fine, resilient thread. Newly formed, water-laden strands break the surface, revealing the moment of transformation into a strong, durable line. In this cyclical interplay of motion and material, the work contemplates how tangible, noun-like forms emerge from a fluid, verb-like process, quietly evoking the origins of the drawn line and the unfolding of linear time.
